The best starting material for creating questionnaires and mapping first drafts

It's going to be an especially busy week for writing resumes! This morning, I onboarded a VP of medical device sales, an associate director of pharmacovigilance, and three project managers from the automotive, aviation, and pharmaceutical industries. Four new sign-ups, and the fifth is a returning customer.

What's so interesting about this group of job seekers is the starting material they've all given me. No AI-generated resumes, no outlines, no voice memos. Instead, they've given me human-written, content-rich resumes to work off of.

Not that there's anything wrong with giving me the other types of material. During the information-gathering stage, any material is fair game. I'll use what's provided to create questionnaires for my customers and start mapping first drafts.

But my best, deepest work emerges when the material is detailed. It helps me visualize sitting at my customer's desk and going through their day-to-day activities, attending meetings, putting out fires, troubleshooting trickier issues, and engaging with strategy.

Performance reviews, customer feedback, slide decks, earnings reports, presentations, press releases, company blogs - all of this is welcome material. The more material a job seeker provides, the richer our time together will be.
