How clients find my services online
It happens to me every year. September begins, and almost overnight, my inbox is filled with consultation requests from job seekers. Most of them are people I’ve never spoken to before.
They saw a post of mine on LinkedIn over the summer months, and they bookmarked the link to peruse in the future.
They found my profile through LinkedIn’s “My Network” tab, and they clicked on the link to my website.
They typed “resume writer + pharmaceutical industry” in Google Search, and they found my Fiverr web page.
They typed “resume writer + project manager” in Fiverr Search, and they found my listing on page one.
LinkedIn recommended my profile to them in an email.
LinkedIn recommended my profile among a list of LinkedIn Search results.
LinkedIn recommended my resume writing services to the people signing up for professional service consultations.
They looked up my website after finding me on Skillshare.
They looked up my website after finding my About.me page.
They looked up my website after reading my Medium articles.
I currently don’t pay for marketing and haven’t created an advertisement in years. But if I wanted to have more clients find my website, paid marketing is another path I could take.
The reason why complete strangers are able to find my services online? Years ago, I folded specific keywords and sentences into my profile, website, and various pages. I chose these keywords/sentences because they were the ones most commonly used by people searching for resume-writing services.
After I added the keywords, and after I’d proven to myself that these were the keywords that my clients were responding to the best, I left them alone.
If I needed to make any adjustments, I made sure they were very minor. But I tried to keep the original text as unchanged as possible.
There’s a saying that I love: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” And that’s how I personally approach SEO marketing.
How I navigate keyword and sentence research:
I always start with Reddit and Quora. I look at the most popular questions being asked by job seekers.
I use keyword research tools such as Keyword Planner by Google Ads.
I look at the hashtags being used by job seekers on LinkedIn.
I interview job seekers who seem to strongly resemble those on my ideal client list. (Project managers, professionals in pharma, C-suite members, etc.)
